A more concrete migration plan is out

During the Chinese New Year break, Phoebe from the Liker Land team provided an update on the ongoing LikeCoin migration plan and roadmap. This plan, written by Oursky and the Liker Land team, included important updates. Rick mentioned that the content was more or less the same, containing items previously submitted to the community call. After months of working through many uncertainties, the team felt more confident in proposing a timeline. According to Rick, the most important timeline was in late March, when the proposal would likely be raised in the testnet to stop inflation and test the program. The public and downstream developers like Liker Social would try the whole migration process in early April, and if everything went well, there would be a testing period, followed by fixes in May. The mainnet migration was proposed to take place in June. Rick invited questions and mentioned that people could message him or ask in the test group.

A more concrete migration plan is out

Phoebe continued by reading the timeline and asked if there was any additional information from William. William shared that he was working on a smart contract, focusing on the logic and UI. There was some back and forth on how the smart contract logic should be made, so he didn’t have a concrete timeline for when the first phase of the book press would be ready. However, progress was being made. After completing the Creator or Author part, the team would move on to working on the Store Front part of Liker Land, which had not yet started. Testing for this part would require more time, making the timeline an estimation. William expected to have something to test in March and would see how it progressed during the month.

Presence in the Taipei Book Fair and workshop for the printing industry

It seems that the test proposal will be ready in March, and the Book Press will also be in testing during that phase. February was a particularly busy month for migration execution. This week coincides with the Taipei Book Fair, where kin is on his way to Taiwan to host a session with a community member at the Taipei Book Fair. Anyone in Taipei who is interested in participating is encouraged to attend the session tomorrow (Feb 4, 2025) at 11:45 AM. kin and some colleagues from the Liker Land team will be present, and there will be a small presence at the Hong Kong publishing booth, with some ebooks available for distribution. Attendees passing by are welcome to take pictures.

Presence in the Taipei Book Fair and workshop for the printing industry

Following the Taipei Book Fair, the team will be in Hualien, a city in Taiwan, hosting a two-day workshop with a local organization called the DTA. The workshop will be aimed at creators and publishers interested in digital transformation, especially those who have never tried ebook publishing before. Participants will have a hands-on experience with the team. The event is free, and tutorials and sharing sessions by kin will be provided. Friends living in the area are encouraged to sign up, with the link already hyperlinked in the deck and shared in the inbox. Information will also be posted on social media for anyone interested in attending.

In the first quarter of the year, numerous workshops will be hosted. Prior to the Chinese New Year, the first workshop was held with Nowhere Publishing in Taiwan, as part of a special program hosted by the Cultural Department of Taiwan. The Liker Land team will continue to host various workshops in the first quarter, including a closed-door event with a publisher and two upcoming workshops in Taiwan with selected publishers about out-of-print projects. Individuals interested in this area are encouraged to reach out for invitations to the workshops. These workshops represent the offline presence for Liker Land.

Latest “New Book” feature on Liker Land

Last month, adjustments were made to the website to accommodate the frequent listing of new books. A new tag was added to highlight the latest books on Liker Land. By tapping the latest trend, users can find the newest uploads, which include various free books, local newspapers, and kin’s new book from last week. This update is also reflected on the homepage.

Crypto payment for checkout

Additionally, Liker Land has enabled crypto payments for book checkouts. Although there are limited improvements that can be made with the current provider, Stripe, there has been significant interest in using crypto for book payments. Updates will be provided as more details become available from the payment provider.

A deck with hyperlinks to all events will be shared in the chat room for anyone interested. Any questions are welcome, and further information will be shared through social media.
