Current Status
🎉 Exciting news: We have been selected as one of the Taiwan News Digital Transformation Project awardees, funded by Google. The initiative is an important showcase for educating the media on content authenticity and providing us with resources to improve the existing ISCN tool.
ISCN was launched in 2019 Sept, to promote a metadata framework for content authenticity—in short, to label digital content such as publications, media content, articles, and books. In the past several years, the LikeCoin network has accumulated 2mil+ registered content by 20k+ creators.
The ISCN registry is currently applied in several areas:
- The property rights layer of an NFT records the relationships between the content and creator.
All NFT eBooks and articles have an ISCN record when they are published as NFTs for purchase. Readers can always verify the content’s origin by comparing the metadata on the Liker Land bookstore.
We recently added a feature that allows ISCN records to be added to the epub file to enhance content traceability.
- A certificate of authenticity and provenance data in news archives.
ISCN has been used in several prototype tools and principles developed by the Starling Lab for Data Integrity to bring historians, legal experts, and journalists into the new era of Web3. Registration records on blockchain and access to archived copies are scattered across the web and are at risk of being lost or taken down. Here is one of the example.
Content Provenance and Authenticity Ecosystem
LikeCoin is a member of the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI), an association founded in November 2019 by Adobe, the New York Times, and Twitter. Media and tech companies, NGOs, academics, and others are working to promote the adoption of an open industry standard for content authenticity and provenance (C2PA) to trace the origin of different types of media. OpenAI recently announced the integration of C2PA metadata in its AI-generated Images to help the public distinguish between genuine and falsified digital content.
For instance, we are exploring incorporating C2PA into our ISCN publishing framework. This would allow ISCN content to be shown in verification tools or recognized by the CAI and other communities. However, in current settings, text-based and publication content is a new content class requiring different verification and provenance processes compared to photos and videos. We shall continue to update our findings with the community.
